Overview

The Luau Show Male Dancer will work under the supervision of the Luau Stage Manager and work in conjunction with the Luau Show Line Captains to assist with the daily operations of the Luau Show.  An integral part of their responsibility is maintaining the performance standards as directed by the Luau Artistic Director.

 

The Luau Show Male Dancer provides professional authentic Hawaiian/Polynesian songs, dances or skits, performances before, during and after the show.  Provides excellent guest experience.

Responsibilities

  • Must attend and participate in all scheduled rehearsals and trainings for the show as required.
  • Must attend all pre-shift and post shift meetings.
  • Must perform all assigned pre-shift and post shift duties including but not limited to cleaning the dressing room and backstage areas before and after the show.
  • Responsible for ensuring the daily preparations for the Luau Show are in order, i.e., costumes and equipment.
  • Responsible to follow the daily performance schedule (line up) for each show.
  • Responsible to ensure you are dressed in accordance to the standards of each number of the show.
  • Responsible to maintain the quality of the choreography for each performance.
  • Responsible to ensure all equipment/instruments, costumes, and supplies are kept in good condition.
  • Perform the lei greeting and picture taking with guests.
  • Participates with the Imu ceremony as needed.
  • Performs the torch lighting ceremony when in operation.
  • Performs the pre-show.
  • Responsible to learn and perform all the dance numbers and songs of the show.
  • Assist the other dancers to learn and perform all the dance numbers and songs of the show.
  • Responsible for making your own accessories and adornments using the fresh greens including but not limited to:
    • Ti leaf skirts, leggings, neck
    • Kupe’e
    • Tahitian hip and hei
    • Other items as required.
  • Responsible for caring and maintaining costumes for each dance number, including accessories.
  • Responsible to assist the immediate supervisor to gather the costumes for weekly washing.
  • Responsible for supplying and maintaining your own personal items needed for all performances of the show, including but not limited to:
    • Hair spray, water bottle spray.
    • Brush, horse brush, comb.
    • Rubber bands for hair (must be same color as hair)
    • Black biker shorts
    • Black bikini-style underwear
    • Other items as directed by supervisor/manager.
  • Must provide an excellent guest experience for overall guest satisfaction.
  • Must attend and participate in all department and company required meetings/training.
  • Must perform other duties as directed by supervisor/management.

Qualifications

  • At least 1-year professional Hawaiian/Polynesian dancing experience or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous guest service experience required.
  • Proven knowledge of Hawaiian/Polynesian culture, songs, and dances, required.
