Overview

Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, including the dish washing machine, hand wash stations pot-scrubbing station, and trash compactor. Wash and disinfect kitchen and store room areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment. Receive deliveries, store perishables properly, and rotate stock. Ensure clean wares are stored in appropriate areas. Use detergent, rinsing, and sanitizing chemicals in the 3-compartment sink to clean dishes. Inspect, pull, and stack cleaned items, send soiled items back for re-scrubbing and re-washing. Rack and spray all racked items with hot water to loosen and remove food residue. Sort, soak, and wash/re-wash silverware. Breakdown dirty bus tubs. Empty and maintain trashcans and dumpster area. Clean and mop all areas in assigned departments. Dispose of glass in the proper containers. Break down cardboard boxes and place them and other recyclables in the recycle bin.

Responsibilities

  • Washing dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen surfaces, equipment, and appliances.
  • Sweeping and mopping kitchen floors.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Operates all department equipment as necessary and reports malfunction.
  • Disposing of kitchen waste and recyclables properly.
  • Emptying trash cans and maintaining cleanliness in waste disposal areas.
  • Monitoring and restocking cleaning supplies and tools.
  • Assisting chefs and kitchen staff during busy periods.
  • Providing support for catering events and functions.
  • Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, such as ovens, stoves, and dishwashers.
  • Keeping kitchen storage areas organized and tidy.
  • Ensuring that all kitchen tools and equipment are stored properly.
  • Following proper procedures for handling and storing hazardous materials.
  • Adhering to safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Coordinates cleaning program in all F&B areas (e.g., General clean), identifying trends and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Establishes and maintains open, collaborative relationships with staff members.Creates and nurtures a property environment that emphasizes motivation, empowerment, teamwork and passion for providing service.
  • Stays readily available/ approachable for all team members.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Always maintain a warm and friendly demeanor.

  • Attend all hotel-required meetings and training. 
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel/Hotel Effie Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel. 
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the proper uniform. 
  • Comply with Highgate Hotel/Hotel Effie Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations. 
  • Perform other duties as requested by management. 
  • Flexible and long hours are sometimes required. 
  • Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. 
  • Ability to stand during the entire shift. 
  • Ability to withstand temperature variations, both hot and cold. 
  • High School diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or a related field preferred.
