Overview

Perform duties of the Marina Mechanic in order to keep all fishing vessels operating smoothly and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all boats with routine maintenance and develop a maintenance schedule.
  • Make sure to communicate with the Marina Manager on vessel request forms for work to be done.
  • Keep up with all expenses via expense report and receipts.
  • The hours worked will be based on the urgency of the mechanical issue. Hours could vary from early to very late.
  • Must keep a very clean and safe mechanic shop being organized and labeled.
  • Will perform re-powering of multiple boats.
  • Must also oversee the skiff fleet of 15 plus skiffs.
  • Must check fuel filters on gas tanks for water and rust (large fuel tanks for marina fuel).
  • Check fuel tank levels on a schedule.
  • Check with Marina manager before any large orders or parts runs.
  • Must be able to drive and maneuver large trailer with boats.
  • May be required to help launch or land boats
  • May have to do oil changes on vehicle fleet
  • Other duties as assigned by my supervisor

Qualifications

  • Certified Marine Outboard Mechanic
  • Experience on Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki Motors
  • Oral communication skills
  • Excellent driving record as verified by a motor vehicle report
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Reading skills
  • Scheduled days and times may vary. Ability to work evening, weekend and/or holiday work hours based on the mechanical needs of the Marina.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out job instructions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to wet or humid weather-related conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb, balance; kneel, crouch, crawl or perceive odors or scents.
  • The employee must be able to lift and bend to lift up to 60 pounds, and to push or pull a minimum of 120 lbs. of various sizes of luggage, packages, coolers or boxes.
  • Continually walking, standing, lifting, pulling.
  • Must be able to drive a minimum of 150 miles per day at various times of day on an as needed basis.
  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (specific standards are available).
  • Must maintain a good working relationship with other departments, employees and guests.
  • Must be able to interface daily with the public, and to provide support to those who interface with the public daily.
  • High School education/ High School diploma preferred.
  • Marine Outboard Certification
  • Previous Outboard Experience required
