The newly renovated Courtyard by Marriott, Boston-Cambridge is nestled on the banks of the historic Charles River, home of the Head of the Charles Regatta. With its unique location situated between prestigious Harvard University and M.I.T., the hotel offers 207 newly renovated rooms.  A short walk puts you in Harvard and Central Square, where there are a variety of restaurants and night life to choose from.

Overview

  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.

  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing nametags.
  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to understand and evaluate complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Responsibilities

  • Process hires in the HRIS.
  • Operate and manage the hotel HR systems.
  • Schedule and conduct new hire onboarding paperwork.
  • Create new employee personnel file.
  • Process paperwork for transferred, promoted and terminating employees.
  • Post job openings, screen resumes, conduct hourly prescreening and assist to schedule interviews.
  • Assist walk-in candidates with application procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of employee and property records, files, and information.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of all employee records and files (e.g., interview documents, I-9's).
  • Assist with employee benefits enrollment, answer inquiries, and help with payroll processing.
  • Answer questions regarding 401K Plan, vacation and benefits (insured and noninsured).
  • Inform employees about HR policies, procedures, and ensure compliance with labor laws.
  • Schedule departmental and hotel meetings and trainings (Orientation, Employee Events, Safety Meeting, etc.)
  • Process reports for Turnover, HR Metrics, Inactivity, Wage Surveys, etc.
  • Audit hours worked in payroll reports for eligibility of benefits.
  • Monitor and maintain logs (New Hire/Transfers/Terminations, LOA, Workers Comp, 3 Conversations, etc.)
  • Assist in Orientation – schedule, prepare materials, explain benefits, conduct tour of property.
  • Write articles and take pictures for property newsletter.
  • Assist with special projects; plan employee events (meetings, picnics, parties).
  • Prepare employee communication flyers, and maintain employee communication board.
  • Monitor and send training reports and updates.
  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to supervisor and/or Security personnel.
  • Report workers compensation claims in accordance with company policies and procedures

Qualifications

Education & Experience: 

  • At least 1 year of progressive Human Resources experience in a hotel or a related industry; or a 4-year college degree and at least 3 months of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and 6 or more months of related experience.
  • College course work in related field helpful
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of employment laws are helpful.

Physical requirements:

  • Long hours sometimes required.
  • Sedentary work with occasional walking and standing – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Hand repetitive motion – Frequent use of wrists, hands, and fingers for typing, data entry, and operating office equipment.
  • Frequent talking and hearing, essential for telephone use and in-person meetings. Close vision for computer work.
